Scooter towing in the rain

Bad weather this weekend here in Oslo with snow and rain. Today, Sunday, did not look that bad on forecast so we tried to get some of our hang glider students a few flights at Ekebergsletta. According to the forecast it should be sunny and nice conditions from about 1200. But that did not happened. Still, we managed to get a few flights between the showers, but as I put on a harness and got ready for a flight in the end of the day the wind turned to tailwind and later it started to rain even worst than before so we packed up.

Wet and cold conditions, but we Norwegians love it – or possibly not.

National team pilot Øyvind E. dances the sun dance hoping for better weather. The Norwegian sun dance has been refined through generations ever since the vikings, and has now reached a high level of sofistication and has been widely adopted by Norwegian hang glider pilots trying to influence the weather. It is one problem though, it does not work.

“New” Wills Wing T2.

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

After the crash and after totally demolishing my dear T2 I was not sure what to do to get a new topless glider as fast as possible. Wills Wing have mid June as their first delivery date, and I just could not wait that long. But then I remembered that Steinar J. had put his one year old T2 up for sales. He prefers flying his Falcon 3 instead and ended up not using his T2 so it only has about 5 flights and maybe 5 hours of airtime. So basically it is a new glider. So I decided to buy his glider, and this evening he came over with it. So now I am ready for the upcoming season.

The new glider does not have the UVM sail, but instead ordinary mylar. Further, it has Litestream uprights instead of Slipstream, and finally of course not my colours. Still, it is an almost brand new T2 and I can use a couple of the a-frame brackets from the old glider, buy a couple of new brackets and uprights, and change the a-frame to Slipstream.

I had insured all my hang gliding equipment, and this will probably save me a lot of cash now. I have just sent in the papers to the insurance company, but I do not expect any problems. I am not sure exactly how much money I will get but it should be enough to pay for the new T2.
