Otto Baste passed away yesterday

Friday, November 30th, 2007

Otto Baste, a hang glider veteran and aviation pilot, died yesterday after 8 years of struggle again cancer. I learned to know Otto a couple of years after I got into hang gliding and as I got involved in the competition committee and started to fly XC and competitions I got to know him better. Even with his serious illness he never gave up and exhibited a unique enjoyment from flying. Further, he always tried to involve and include others and to help other pilots enjoy flying as much as he did. He was also involved in, and an initiator to, an extraordinary number of activities related to flying; developing flying sites, arranging aviation shows, a keen declared task record breaker, competition pilot, marketing hang gliding and recruiting new students – the list just continue.

I will miss you Otto – fly in peace!

Wills Wing carbon speed bar

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Wills Wing has finally released their “second generation” carbon speed bar. It will fit all Slipstream and Slipsteam 2 control bars. This speed bar looks like a million dollars, and almost cost as much. As an upgrade with a T2 it will cost $ 420, and alone it will cost $ 780.

I like the standard profiled aluminum speed bar quite good, but it is not impossible that I have one of the new carbon fantastic speed bars the upcoming summer. Actually my T2 UVM is just begging for one.

Spectacular paraglider video

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

It is not often that I post paraglider stuff on this site, but this video with flying from Aiguille de Midi is well worth spending + 8 minutes on. It even works well full screen on a 22′. Take a look at the video HERE (double click on the video for full screen).

Not much going on lately

Sunday, November 18th, 2007

It has been a while since the last post here. The reason is simple – not much going on. We are still training hang glider students almost every weekend, but Steinar Sverd has taken most of the responsibility here and been out every weekend. He is doing a really good job as instructor and big chief of scooter towing. I have brought with me both camera and video camera the last times I had instructors duty, but has been to lazy to take pictures or video.

A couple of weekends ago I attended the 30th anniversary of Sportwing Hang Gliding Club at Hunderfossen north of Lillehammer. Great party, and most of us got quite enough to drink, so I have censured all photos from the event.
